Website Design for Renewable Energy Startup

The website we created for Mythos Solar Energy has given this renewable energy startup the credibility it needed to establish their brand in an increasingly competitive market, and reach the critical next stage of their growth as a company.

When Mythos engaged us, their existing Web site that did not support their business goals. Difficult to parse, the site did not effectively communicate who Mythos was and what they did.

We began with research to better understand Mythos, their products, and their competitors. We quickly realized that Mythos could distinguish themselves from other off-the-grid solar energy providers simply by doing a good job of explaining their products and their benefits.

For this project’s particular challenges, we drew upon our network of specialists. To work around the problem of showing products that were still in development, we engaged our 3D partner to create models from the product blueprints. Our content partner Epigram developed a branded voice and tone for Mythos, and created original copy for the new site.

For the site’s visual design, we had originally intended to use the existing logo and identity. But initial design explorations quickly revealed several opportunities for improvement. With approval from Mythos, we developed a new logo and identity that retained the original blue and green brand colors but was a cleaner, more robust expression of the brand.

With the new content, a redesigned identity, and the 3D product models, in mid-2007, we launched a new, clearly branded Web site that effectively communicates the company’s offering. With new features such as “email this page” and adjustable text size, the site is extremely accessible.

To date, feedback on the redesigned Web site has been overwhelmingly positive. Customers and distributors have praised the site for its clarity and simplicity. Mythos CEO Laura Linser says the new site has been instrumental in helping Mythos raise additional investor funding and continue developing its products.
